Books that inspire

Designers & Books is devoted to publishing lists of books that admired design professionals identify as personally important, meaningful, formative and have defined their view on design.

The website has been designed to encourage comments, generate debate, and facilitate discussions about the books that are posted. The designers who have contributed book lists are architects, fashion designers, graphic designers, interior designers, and product designers—as well as practitioners in additional specialised fields of design.

Designers & Books was created by Steve Kroeter and the website was designed by Pentagram

With 843 books listed so far, from Everything is Illuminated by Jonathan Safran Foer to Edward De Bono's Thinking Course. The collection has certainly bulked up our reading lists for the year. Which books have inspired you?

About us

As children we had the freedom of imagination and creativity with no boundaries. At school and as adults we are encouraged away from imagination and day dreaming, to think in a structured, process driven way. We disagree with this. We challenge this. Imagination and creativity are gifts that we are all given, and we can develop and encourage them, not throw them away. Free Thinking® is our approach to life, to creativity, to advertising campaigns, to graphic design. We challenge the way things are done, created, agreed, made.
