The Evelyn Grace Academy in London has won the RIBA Stirling Prize 2011. Designed by Zaha Hadid Architects, Evelyn Grace is made up of four schools under one academy umbrella. The school's speciality is sport, however before the rebuild it lacked any opportunity for significant outdoor sport. The architects responded to this with creativity and intelligence by creating a running track through its grounds.
The design generates natural patterns of division within highly functional spaces which give each of the four smaller schools a distinct identity, internally and externally.
The award recognises the best building in Europe which was designed or built in britain.
